Enlisting in the United States Marine Corps was a monumental moment in my life. I was proud to have the opportunity to serve my country while being stationed states side in hopes to serve in far-off lands. While home on leave from the Marine Corps, I realized how quickly life can change. I became a quadriplegic as the result of an automobile accident in which my friend’s car struck a telephone pole that fell on my side of the vehicle. Never looking back, I have pursued wheelchair sports, returning to that feeling of pride from my earlier life since I am able to accomplish what some consider impossible. I was recently a member of the Pteryldactals, the wheelchair rugby national champions, and also completed a 3000-mile cross country trip on my hand cycle in 60 days. I have now stepped it up a notch by becoming competitive with marathons in the last two years. With only a hand full under my belt, I seek bigger and better things with the 50-50-50 challenge.
